"Standing Guard II" is in charge!

"Standing Guard II"  11"x14" Mixed media on canvas
Here is a kitty that has been watching that mouse house front door a little too long. His eyes are crossed!

This mixed media painting was done with acrylic paints and those water soluble crayons by Caran D'Ache of Switzerland called  Neocolor II. Here is a photo of the box of crayons.
Guess they are called wax pastels...
I get the opportunity to work with children every once in a while and the above painting was started at one of those times. The age group of the kids usually dictates the degree of finish I get to when teaching the painting. The one above is one that I started and the kids were in the 5 to 6 year old group They finished their paintings so fast I did all I could to keep up! So I brought this painting home and it's been sitting around the studio for a little over a year, I think. Yesterday, I was having one of those days that I keep working around the studio cleaning and arranging things instead of starting or finishing a painting. This one called out to me. I forgot to take a photo of the before, but I did play around with the "wax pastels" and this painting is another to add to my Kitty Cat Series! Perfect.

Look what I found to do next! Another painting that I painted with 5 and 6 year olds! Wow, I am a slow painter!!
So this is the before or underpainting.....
Interesting that this is another kitty....  lucky me.   : )

Have a lovely day!

"Wild Rose" -SOLD

  • "Wild Rose"  15"x11"   oil on paper -SOLD
Now, should this be rose painting number 1 or do I continue where I left off in January and let this be rose painting number 16? Myra?

I have another that I did same time as this one. I actually did three paintings in one sitting. I kind of like painting that way, I don't know why.

Okay then, here are the other two!
"Wild Orange Rose"  15"x11" oil on paper
"Orange Kitty"  15"x11" oil on paper
I know weird, two roses and a kitty painting. Who's to question the artists mind? Huh?

This is kitty painting number... five or six, I need to go back and check.  : )

Have a great day!

Here we go again...

"February Flower"  15"x11" oil on paper
I had so much fun last month painting almost, just about, everyday, that I thought I'd go again. Let's see how long this lasts. I have some paintings I've promised, my goal is to finish those this month too.
Guess making a list would be a good idea for me, well at least it usually works for me. I'll keep you updated.

In the meantime....  here is a collage of the thirty paintings I did in January, in no particular order.
15 rose paintings in here, thanks Judy and Della Rose.
Have a safe super bowl weekend!

"As I was Saying"

"As I was Saying"   6"x6"  oil on masonite panel
It's that one little leaf hand on the right that makes this rose seem like she's trying to explain something to us. This girl is a tough one to photograph, those reds and pinks are on fire!

I went to sleep at like 1 or 1:30 AM last night (morning) so when 5 o'clock then 6:30 AM came around, I think I opened one eye then closed it back up until 9 AM. Yes, I got my 8 hours, I seem to need that much sleep, so that means I didn't make it to the early morning paint with Lisa Daria (in spirit, Lisa lives in Massachusetts). Regardless, I did commence painting once I woke up and this is what I painted! I painted over that "wiper" from yesterday. I put oil on top of that acrylic I was using yesterday morning.

This is painting number... I'm going to say 16! Yes, on track. Where is 15? Aahh... remember I told you that I painted W&C last night? Well, I taught again tonight and I was able to photograph my painting from last night, "Life is Good" and my painting from tonight, "Two Palms". Jackpot!! I'm ahead one painting of the 30 paintings in 30 days!! Oh man, I should really sleep in tomorrow, or not. Hey, I'll get back to you and let you know.

Good Night for now...  : )

Two is Okay...

"Above One"   6"x6" oil on canvas panel
"Above Two"   6"x6" oil on canvas panel
I think I have these mixed up as far as which one was on my left and which one was on my right. I painted these at the same time. I thought... "why not", I've painted several at a time before, remember the acrylic on paper with the apple and the coffee cup series. This was very, I want to say "freeing", is that a word?

Here is the rose I worked from, it was a bit unhappy because I had not taken care of it. I tried to make appear a bit more happy.
Unhappy model...
I couldn't help to not think about Georgia O'Keeffe while painting these close up flower images. She was all about that.

I missed the post yesterday, oh well, every once in a while may be better than every day any way, yes?

Maybe I'm crazy,

So much for two today...

"January Four"    8"x6" mixed media on canvas panel
I worked on several paintings at a time today and almost did't finish one! I'm not even sure if this one should be considered finished. Maybe tomorrow will be my day to finally get caught up, time will tell. And yes, I'm surprise with this painting, I had no idea... can you tell?

Oh, I thought I would show you how much snow is in our front yard.

When was the last time I trudged through snow that was almost up to me knees in Indiana? It's been a while and now it's 6ºF and windy like 30 mph, feels like -15ºF. Nope, I'm not going outside!

We will see what tomorrow brings.

First little post of the year 2014 -Sold

6"x6" oil on canvas panel
This is the first painting of the year for me and the first painting of my 2014, thirty paintings in thirty days challenge with Leslie Saeta.

Believe it or not this painting took me a long time to do. I had to clean up my home studio first, then I had to figure out how to set up my studio for still lives again and on and on and on....

Now, I've been watching Qiang Huang paint roses for the last couple days and decided to give it a try. This is the first. I started this painting and got really picky. Then I remembered I usually have fun painting and I wasn't having fun, so I changed my attitude, finished this guy and I will try again tomorrow!

Do another, that's what I tell my students, that is what I tell myself today.  : )

Happy New Year!

"IMA" and "Surviveoar"

Front: mixed media on paddle
Back: mixed media on paddle

Here she is Ms. Ima Surviveoar.
Ima paddles in a dragon boat for the Indy Surviveoars Team.

This is an oar that I've painted for the "Pink Paddle Party",  which is the teams annual conclusion of the Indy SurviveOars dragon boat racing season and their come together for a celebration and fundraiser. Hopefully this paddle will help raise a lot of dollars for the survivors cause.

Go team!!

"Who?"-Sold

2"x3" mixed media on paper mounted on canvas
This is a small piece done today for Randy's mom. This owl has many possibilities, mostly devouring mice and other small rodents!

I started painting with acrylics but the feathers required more, so I searched and searched and I found my color pencils, thus the "controlled scribbles" for the small feathers. Mixed media, gotta love it.

Enjoy your week,

"Wave Breaker"

6"x8" oil on canvas panel

The last post was an image of the last painting I did on Madeline Island before coming home to Indianapolis, Indiana. This is the first painting I did when I was on Madeline Island. This is a view from the ferry dock, looking out toward one of the Apostle Islands. The day was over cast so there was very little contrast to be found. The orangey rusty looking part in the middle of the painting is the "wave breaker". There were seagulls all lined up waiting for the next free meal to arrive I'm sure.

Have a great day!

"Grand Hotel"

11"x15" mixed media on paper
Today, I finished this little guy and resumed working on the pieces that need to get finished.

This cup has a splash of coffee on it and a few other mixed media items. For example, there is golf leaf,  glitter and some kind of screen stuff (not sure where it came from anymore) and layers of paint, stained papers and pieces of financial charts.

The piano's will be out this Thursday and I am working on putting a little video of last Saturday's Piano Party.

Have a great day!

7 Paintings for "Walk Away With Art"

"Stairway to Heaven"   10.5" x 10" Mixed media on paper
"Bailey and Me"   10.5" x 9" Mixed media on paper
"Martini Moulin Rouge"   10.5" x 9" Mixed media on paper
"Orange Twist"   10.5" x 9" Mixed media on paper
"Alan Harpertini"   10.5" x 9" Mixed media on paper
"Clock Work"   10.5" x 9" Mixed media on paper - SOLD
"Martini Magic"   10.5" x 9" Mixed media on paper
These are the seven paintings I have in the Raymond James Stutz Art Gallery for the "Walk Away With Art" show the month of July.

The idea is this; there are seven artists and each artist submitted seven pieces of art to be sold at $100 each. Patrons buy a ticket here and then on July 26th at the "Walk Away With Art" reception numbers are drawn and the first number gets to make the first pick. And if you are a couple you can buy a ticket for $150 and pick two. Wow, to me that's a pretty good deal.

Anyway, I finished these last week along with the piano's finishing touches.  : )

Have a great day.

-JanettMarie
PS:  That is chickens in the background of the piano movie.

"Salvo's Martini" ---Sold

8"x6" oil on canvas panel
A finished little commission piece, painted especially for Salvo. This special surprise did surprise him. The painting was still wet on Sunday afternoon and the presentation was that evening! So I carefully put this piece in a cigar box and labeled the outside of the box with little instructions on how to open it.

Here is the photo Andrea took with Salvo and his painting.
Don't you just love it when a plan comes together!

More on the piano later.

"Four is More" -Sold

about 12"x11" mixed media on paper
This painting I was trying to be a little calm. Calm colors and hopefully a calm feeling, and it is loaded with olives. If that is what those big dots are.  : )

Just before the big snow hit our city yesterday afternoon, I got to paint kitty's with some young enthusiastic artists. We finished just in time to beat the snow and oh we had a wonderful time. See for yourself!
We are hoping for Spring.
Here is Rogue, she followed right along with me, right down to the fish tag on here orange kitty's collar.
Enjoy your day,
-JanettMarie

"The Stroke of Midnight"

about 11"x5" mixed media on paper
How about this one? A little different for me. It has my collage papers, acrylic "skins", string, ink, oh my! A lot of fun. The black is a piece of archival mat board. Go figure, I would have never thought I'd do something like this. My world continues to expand.  : )
