Do Another... ---Sold

Rose Two- 6"x6" oil on canvas panel
Another try at a rose painting. I have the underpainting to show you...

I'm not sure how I can go from here to up there, but I did.  I wanted to paint this rose simply like a Morandi, then I thought "How would Van Gogh paint a rose?", I ended up with this. Go figure, no, do another!

"Morning Coffee" ---#12

6"x6" oil on canvas
"Morning Coffee" painting number 12 and I think it's a first. Not my first cup of coffee, but I think it's my first painting done exclusively with paint knives. Quite a few of the painters doing the 30 paintings in 30 days have set up challenges for themselves. I didn't really want to set myself up, but after seeing a lot of great painting with knives, I thought go for it. The fact that I've been wanting to give paint knives a try and I kept putting it off thinking, maybe I'll take a class, then, I decided, just like anything, I'm sure it's about repetition.

I always tell the painters I'm teaching, the way to get better at painting is practice. I'm gonna practice what I'm preaching! And continue practicing with the paint knife.

Here are some of the painters with their paintings from last Saturday's Cookies and Canvas class.
A few of the painters and their paintings.
Emma and her painting of "Daisy". Yes, I encouraged naming the muddy pups!
Emma added a butterfly, a lot of flowers and a bow.
Kenzie and Janell with their puppies. Love the clouds, the birds and the ears.
My friend Connie Nobbe and her daughter Alyssa sat in on the class.  Connie did a painting and wrote about the experience on her blog.  She said some pretty nice things about the class. Thanks Connie! If you get a chance take a look here!

Santa 2-"Oh, Rudolph!"

8"x6" Oil on canvas panel.

When I started painting this, all I could see was Santa out here looking for Rudolph. Time for Christmas Rudolph! I added the white dots at the end. First they were stars, then I thought, oh, maybe it's starting to snow. I guess they can be what ever we want them to be! I love that about painting!

A big "thank you" to Carolyn, she gave me the nudge that I needed today, to get this painting finished!

How long have I been working on it, or I mean at it? Well, since I purchased a couple of "pot belly" Santa ornaments a couple weeks ago from Frazee Gardens in Brownsburg, when I painted the snowman with the kids! That was Sunday, December 2nd!
Frazee Snowman!
Hopefully, I will get the next one finished in a more timely manner.  : )

He found his place! Right there in the cold Russian Forrest! With the snow and the evergreens, this little cadet fits in here!

Okay, I'm looking for Santa, he is suppose to model for me!

Have a great day!

"Santa One" -Sold

8"x6" oil on canvas panel

Ho, ho, ho! This was painted Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving! I just couldn't put him up until after Thanksgiving. Something inside stopped me. Maybe the fact that I needed to have a turkey dinner before considering a Santa Claus! This cute little guy, I'm thinking about painting ten of them.... time will tell and I'll let you all know!

Happy Thanksgiving! Belated.... oh, how about Happy Black Friday!

"Joe's Purple Prose"

6"x6" oil on canvas panel

If one is going to sit around and talk, one may as well have a big cup of coffee. Why not in a purple cup!

This painting was done in the spirit of Cathleen Rehfeld. I love how she uses the black gesso ground.

Yes, coffee cup painting number 79.....
