"Grand Hotel"

11"x15" mixed media on paper
Today, I finished this little guy and resumed working on the pieces that need to get finished.

This cup has a splash of coffee on it and a few other mixed media items. For example, there is golf leaf,  glitter and some kind of screen stuff (not sure where it came from anymore) and layers of paint, stained papers and pieces of financial charts.

The piano's will be out this Thursday and I am working on putting a little video of last Saturday's Piano Party.

Have a great day!

"Coffee Kup Hundred and 3" -Sold

12"x16" Mixed media on paper mounted on canvas
Hello, remember me, JanettMarie?

Just delivered this painting today, so I feel it's safe to post now. This coffee cup is a gift and I didn't want to take any chances to let the cup out of the bag!

The background has coffee commodity charts in there. The letters KC is the coffee symbol and the H is for March, so this is really a 2003 March Coffee symbol. TMI, right? Although with all the coffee cup paintings I've done, maybe it is number 103! You know, I think it is, how fun it that!

Have a great coffee day.

"Morning Coffee" ---#12

6"x6" oil on canvas
"Morning Coffee" painting number 12 and I think it's a first. Not my first cup of coffee, but I think it's my first painting done exclusively with paint knives. Quite a few of the painters doing the 30 paintings in 30 days have set up challenges for themselves. I didn't really want to set myself up, but after seeing a lot of great painting with knives, I thought go for it. The fact that I've been wanting to give paint knives a try and I kept putting it off thinking, maybe I'll take a class, then, I decided, just like anything, I'm sure it's about repetition.

I always tell the painters I'm teaching, the way to get better at painting is practice. I'm gonna practice what I'm preaching! And continue practicing with the paint knife.

Here are some of the painters with their paintings from last Saturday's Cookies and Canvas class.
A few of the painters and their paintings.
Emma and her painting of "Daisy". Yes, I encouraged naming the muddy pups!
Emma added a butterfly, a lot of flowers and a bow.
Kenzie and Janell with their puppies. Love the clouds, the birds and the ears.
My friend Connie Nobbe and her daughter Alyssa sat in on the class.  Connie did a painting and wrote about the experience on her blog.  She said some pretty nice things about the class. Thanks Connie! If you get a chance take a look here!

Coffee Cup Paintings Finale!

42" x 42" acrylic on canvas

Okay, sorry for the delay, we need to get this party going! This painting of the splashy red coffee cup on this black background is a huge 42 inches by 42 inches! I think... I forgot to measure it today : )  This is painting number 98 of the 100 coffee cup paintings and is titled "Rouge Jackson (aka 'Party Boy')"! This big guy was hanging out on the floor in my studio and everyone that walked by said "Wow, I love this!", so I signed it and called it finished! Photographing it was my big delay for posting, oops.

Ready for number 100? This one too came as a result of viewers passing by.......

Give me a minute, I'll show it to you!

"Ghost of Coffee Past"

12"x12" mixed media on canvas

Big brush, little bottle of paint, how's that for a bigger coffee cup painting! This is painting number 98 and since it's the "Ghost of Coffee Past" it only seems appropriate that I show you a quick movie of the open house from this past month! I did edit out a bit of the party, but I think you can still get the idea of the festivities from the two days!

I invite everyone to attend next year!

"Cup of Gyro"

12" x 12" acrylic on canvas

Hi, I'm back! This is coffee cup painting number 97, finished on April 26th. I finished quite a few on April 26th. You can see I got really, really loose with the paintings too. I was like a little Jackson Pollack.

I have video from the open house weekend, but I haven't figured out how to get it from my camcorder to my computer yet! Patience, I'll get there...

I have a picture of one of my Wine and Canvas painters that painted with me last Saturday. We painted "Poppies A.S. Poppies". The A.S. stands for Angela Sullivan because it is one of her poppies paintings that was the inspiration for this painting.

Above is Alee, she use her artistic license to make her painting extra special for her Father. She is sending this to him in Taiwan! Beautiful! I love the happy faces.

Here is a photo of part of the class with their poppy paintings:

Thanks Angela!

"Cup Full of Compliments"

12" x12" Mixed Media on Canvas

"Cup Full of Compliments".... This piece was hanging out in my studio and just kept getting compliments from passer-byers, so that is the title it received, a no brainer.

There is some lighter yellow areas in here that I again, could not translate in the photograph very well, but it is a lot of yellow on yellow, and the dark is really dark blue. The darker yellowish areas is gold glitter! Yes, had to add a little shine to the compliments!

For incase anyone is curious, I did finish the series of 100 Coffee Cup paintings in time for the big open house this weekend. The show was two days of a lot of people and wow. We opened Friday night at 5:30 PM through 10:30 PM, then opened again on Saturday at 2 PM through 7 PM. I was a walking zombie last night! I will have photos of the show and the rest of the coffee cups paintings for you this week.

Excuse me now, while I rest... zzzzz.....

"Friday's Joe"

6"x6" mixed media on canvas panel

Oh, here we go number 94. This painting is actually an old painting reworked! That's okay right?
I love this coffee cup. I mean I really like drinking from it. It's so.... oh, I know, it's so Irish Coffee without the Irish. I added a few touches that I think made it have a little more life or character than the other version.
Here is the old one
Friday's Joe from May 2009.....

What a difference, oh so subtle....

See you tomorrow!

"Twilight Zone"

Number 93 is flying around above the mountains somewhere in the twilight..... zone....

Oh, maybe that is just where I am right now.... gotta go!

"Neon Gold"

6"x8" mixed media on canvas

Hope this isn't too soon, but here is coffee cup painting number 92. It's another that I found hard to photograph... maybe I need a new camera! I wonder if it's the black ground I'm using for these last few paintings. Oh, there is some beautiful gold glitter in this painting too, making it really neon-like!

Martha told the story of when the neon sign was golden in the day when one would be on a road trip, looking for that coffee shop in the night! That sign would be a golden find!

"Suzie's Favorite"

8"x6" mixed media on canvas

How about this one? "Suzie's Favorite", number 91.

I found another color that is hard to photograph, bright green, like fluorescent green, and bright yellow...

Got to go.... another painting coming!  ....soon....

"Red Hot Coffee" -Sold

12"x12" mixed media on canvas

Okay this little guy is number 90! Whoo hoo! Oh my goodness, they are getting tougher to title too!

Luckily, John Kirchner from down the hall stopped in my studio just in time to help with titling this little guy.

Bonnie Heather had made a comment earlier in the week about one of these coffee cup paintings being very ... did she say luscious? Like juicy, yes? Well, this one is also very luscious, heavily applied paint and yes it was fun! A girl has got to have fun!

Oh where oh where is number 91? Watch for it!

6"x8" mixed media on canvas

Here she is, number 89. Can I do it? Get to 100 coffee cup paintings by April 27th? I hope so.

I actually have a really big cup that seems to be finished, but I'm still looking at it. It is 43" by 43", I think, I'll remeasure before I post it.

Tomorrow!

"The Magical Green Cup"

6"x6" oil and glitter on canvas panel

This cup can only be counted as magical. As I traveled back looking at all the of coffee cup paintings, this one appeared and I have not posted or counted this one. So, today I added a touch of the magical glitter dust and I call this number 86! Yes, quite magical, because all I did in the studio today was cut mats and package artwork in sleeves to get ready for the big open house coming up.... very soon....

Have a magical evening!

"Center of Attention"

22"x30" mixed media on paper

Well, this one certainly had my attention for a long time and... it still does!

This is coffee cup painting number 83 and it is a big one at 22 inches by 30 inches. Hmm, that may look very nice above Myra's sofa! Yes, right next to....

Another coffee cup tomorrow Martine!

Myra, I hope you're okay after those tornadoes that messed up Dallas this time.... I really dislike tornadoes, a lot.

"Cup With Bling"

6"x6" mixed media on canvas panel

What girl doesn't like a little bling with her coffee. Okay, I'm sure there are a few guys out there that like it  too!

This is a cup with some really really fine glitter on it. I even put glitter specks, like little stars in the sky in the background. Hmm, maybe this would be a night time café.

Number 82!

"My Paint Cup" -Sold

6"x6" oil media on canvas panel

This isn't really my paint cup, but if I did have one, this may be what it would look like. Like a paint cup to clean brushes, not for drinking coffee,  goodness. Looks like the coffee has been spilled all over the table too.

Tonight, I got the opportunity to show 32 pieces of my artwork at a special event. The venue high lighted the art of good food, good visual art and good music. It was fantastic! The organizer of the event Andrew Lyon did a short interview with me for the audience.  I just had to talk about all of my beautiful blogger art buddies. I told them we are all great friends and have never met in person! Yes Myra, I talked about you and Martine and my friends from Canada, California, Atlanta, and just everywhere! I love you guys! Thanks for keeping my drive alive!

PS: Oh, by the way, this is coffee cup painting number 81...
